A&E’s popular reality show, Storage Wars, made the fast-talking auctioneer couple, Dan and Laura Dotson, famous. The pair has been a key component of the series since their 2010 debut, attracting viewers with their charisma and remarkable auctioneering abilities.
But their career in the auction business began long before the cameras were rolling. Since he was a teenager, Dan has participated in auctions, having learned the trade from his grandfather. After meeting Dan, Laura entered the field, and the two of them created a successful company. Their success story continues off-camera, despite their departure from the show in its tenth season owing to budget limitations.
Maintaining Their Legacy of Auctions
The Dotsons are still at the top of the auctioneering business even after leaving Storage Wars. They are the owners and operators of American Auctioneers, a business that holds more than 3,000 live and online auctions every year. Dan started this business in 1983, and with Laura’s help as manager and co-owner, it has expanded rapidly.
In addition, the couple owns StorageAuctions.net, a website that facilitates self-storage auctions in the US and Canada. Together, they have made American Auctioneers one of the most prosperous businesses in the sector.
Giving Back and Philanthropy
The Dotsons have a similar enthusiasm for helping others. To support the U.S. Navy, they held an auction on board the USS Zumwalt Destroyer in 2019. They raised almost $100,000 for charity that year by organizing a benefit at the house of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards in collaboration with Bravo TV.
In addition to earning money, they support important issues including raising awareness of CPR.
Promoters of CPR Education
Laura saved Dan’s life in 2014 after he suffered a potentially fatal twin aneurysm. Laura, assisted by their son Garrett, performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Dan until paramedics came, using CPR techniques she had learned as a Girl Scout.
The pair became advocates for aneurysm awareness and CPR training as a result of the experience. They regularly give speeches at public gatherings, emphasizing the value of identifying signs and being prepared for crises.
Getting Rich
In addition to their triumph at auction, the Dotsons unexpectedly became wealthy. As an investment, they bought a 60-acre property in Kentucky in 2005. They found oil on the property eight years later, which made their investment profitable.
Is Storage Wars Coming Back?
Dan and Laura have continued to actively promote Storage Wars on social media, despite the lack of formal confirmation on upcoming seasons. Dan has voiced his desire for them to return to the show, implying that their skills in auctioneering might once more grace our screens.
